Cinema Ideal Cityplex

Commercial multiplex in Turin, Italy Part of Cityplex · Opened 1 Jan 1939

Historic cinema opened in 1939, designed by architect Ottorino Aloisio on the site of the former Cinematografo Fides, originally seating about 2,400; the only 1930s Turin cinema to survive, an example of rationalist-expressionist architecture with rounded forms and yellow-grey klinker cladding (Architetture Rivelate award, 2006). Damaged in the air raid of 13 July 1943, repaired 1944-45 and reopened after WWII. Later converted to a 5-screen multiplex, with Sala 1 in the former circle and the stalls divided into four rooms; billed as the first digital cinema in Piedmont. Operated by Margi S.r.l. Per the cinema, all rooms now use Christie RealLaser CineLife projectors (4K in Sala 1-3, 2K in Sala 4-5) and HGA laser screens; Sala 1 has a 200 m2 screen and Dolby Atmos. Seat counts differ between sources (cinematreasures: 670/210/210/150/135; comingsoon.it and agendacinematorino.it: 754/237/148/141/134). Email is the operator's address as published in ARCI convention listings, not on the cinema's own site.
