Neighbourhood cinema in Turin, Italy Part of Circuito Cinema Torino · Opened 1 Jan 1898
Historic cinema screening films since 1898, designed by architect A. Donisotti. Located in the left corner of the elegant Galleria Subalpina, an arcade built in 1874 that connects Piazza Castello with Piazza Carlo Alberto. Recently converted into a triple-screen cinema. Shows all kinds of successful films on first release, often with queues due to its central position and comfortable seating. History (MuseoTorino; Quotidiano Piemontese): the basement of the Galleria Subalpina hosted the Caffè Concerto/Salone Romano from 1898; the Cinematografo Lumière opened there in 1905, the hall was renamed Cinema Romano in 1907 and officially inaugurated on 10 June 1911; reopened as a theatre-variety venue in 1916, badly damaged by bombing in August 1943, reopened 5 September 1946, and radically rebuilt in 1958, after which it became an art-house (d'essai) cinema. Booking site/impressum (https://www.cinemaromanotorino.com, https://romano.cctorino.18tickets.it/impressum) gives the management company as Irpinia S.r.l. and the address as Piazza Castello 9; the venue is listed among the Circuito Cinema Torino cinemas (https://www.circuitocinematorino.com/cinema/romano.html).
